What is AI image upscaling?
AI image upscaling increases the resolution of a photo using super-resolution models that reconstruct sharp edges, texture and fine detail instead of simply stretching pixels.
How many credits does upscaling cost?
Credits are based on the size of the result and the AI engine you use: Precision costs 2 credits per megapixel of output, Generative 8 and Creative 20, rounded up, with a minimum of 5 credits. A 1024×1024 image at 2x with Precision produces 2048×2048 (4.2 megapixels) and costs 9 credits. Adding background removal costs 2 extra credits. The free plan is a flat 3 credits.
Which scales can I use?
Every upscale runs on Topaz AI models, which support 2x and 4x. Which scale you can use depends on your image size and plan: output is capped at 16 megapixels on the free plan and 64 megapixels on paid plans, and never exceeds 8192px on the longest side.
What image formats and sizes are supported?
We support JPG, PNG and WebP up to 10MB. The free plan accepts images up to 1024×1024px, paid plans up to 4096×4096px. Output is capped at 16MP on the free plan, 64MP on paid plans, and never exceeds 8192px on the longest side.
How long are my images kept?
Free plan images are kept for 15 days, Starter for 90 days, and Premium plan images are stored without limits. You can delete any of your records at any time from the Assets page.
